The most beautiful sauna ever built. Angular wood and glass on a Helsinki harbour pier.
Named for the Finnish word for the steam produced when water hits sauna stones, Löyly opened in 2016 on a formerly derelict section of Helsinki harbour. The building — designed by Avanto Architects — is a cascade of interlocking angular planes clad in dark thermally-treated pine, rising from the water's edge. Inside: two saunas (one wood-fired, one electric), a restaurant, and direct access to the Baltic for cold-water plunges at any temperature the season provides.

An insider's tip
Pre-book — it sells out most evenings. The smoke sauna session (reserved separately) is the most intense and authentic sauna experience in Helsinki.

Sauna → Baltic plunge → sauna → Baltic plunge → beer on the deck watching the Helsinki skyline. The full cycle takes about 90 minutes.
