The Mother Spring in Pagosa Springs is the deepest geothermal hot spring ever measured — over 1,002 feet deep. It feeds The Springs Resort's network of more than 50 pools ranging from cold plunges to scalding 114°F (45°C) pools strung along the San Juan River with views of the San Juan Mountains. The water contains 13 minerals with documented therapeutic value. The resort recently expanded dramatically and now includes wellness pools, a panoramic sauna, and riverside dining.

Book overnight stay for 24-hour pool access. A midnight soak under Colorado stars in winter — with snow on the mountains — is one of the great hot spring experiences in North America.

Don't leave without

Work through the temperature gradient: start cool, move progressively hotter, end with a cold plunge in the river. The full circuit takes about 90 minutes.
